KINGSTON - SACKETS HARBOR - MAIN DUCK - KINGSTON

"Tankard" - Our chariot for this journey
We set out from Kingston on Friday at 12 Noon, and headed for Sackets harbor, New York. We motored leisurely into a west wind, and then set the sails near the K9 buoy when we changed course to head south. The weather was stunning.
Andrea at the helm
We stopped for a quick swim way out in open water because it was getting hot, and Lake Ontario is warmer than it's been for years with the long heat-wave that we've been having. What a difference from last year. While we were stopped, we had some refreshments...

The wind decided to throw a strawberry shooter on me... good thing it didn't hit
the cigar, or I would have been really ticked.
Joanne & Andrea - Can you tell they're sisters?
We arrived in Sackets Harbor at around 9pm, and Andrea felt that she needed another swim...
Down below getting dried off
We went out for a bite to eat, and then came back to the boat and crashed out.
The next day we went for what we thought was going to be a short walk, but due to some unclear directions by a waitress, we walked for about 40 minutes before we found a grocery store. Interestingly enough, the walk back was about 15 minutes. Got all that sorted out, refueled, and headed for Main Duck Island.

Brent catching the best rays on the bow.
Yep... I'm definitely enjoying this trip!
Main Duck - Straight Ahead
Happy Sailors
After a brief rain-out, and a bit of a wait until we could get supper finished, we enjoyed a gourmet meal down below at the dining table. Marinated steak, salt-potatoes, baked onion, red wine... what a great meal.
Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to take a walking tour of Main Duck, as Schoolhouse Bay was packed with boats, so we settled for a spot to anchor on the outside, and just enjoyed a view of the island from a couple hundred feet offshore. After making sure the anchor was properly set, we all faded off.
Sunday morning was another gorgeous day in the sun as we made our way back to Kingston... a quick stop about 5 miles off for another swim, and then onward to Portsmouth Olympic Harbour, and the end of a terrific weekend.
Can't wait for
next year!
